IPL 2016 GL vs KXIP Live Punjab seek turnaround under to second win

IPL 2016 GL vs KXIP Live Punjab seek turnaround under to second win, IPL 2016 GL vs KXIP Live Punjab seek turnaround under to second win.under the new leadership of Murali Vijay, Kings XI Punjab hoped for a new vigour to resurrect their flaying 2016 Indian Premier League season, and that vigour was provided by Axar Patel who became the 11th bowler in IPL history to claim a hat-trick, and riding on the superlative effort from the left-arm spinner (4/21) Kings XI Punjab notched up their second win of the season beating Gujarat Lions by 23 runs at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Rajkot on Sunday.

A target of 155 did not seem to be a challenging one for GL who had so far steam-rolled their opposition en route to the top spot in the points tally, but on a Rajkot track that had just enough purchase for the spinners, the Suresh Raina-led side were undone by the left-arm spin Axar to crash to only their second defeat in seven matches.
It was the Indian pacer Mohit Sharma (3/32) who laid the foundation for the successful defence with the wickets of Brendon McCullum (1) and Raina (18) upfront, before Axar swooped in with a three-wicket over, that included the scalps of Dwayne Smith (15), Dinesh Karthik (2) and Dwayne Bravo (0). Yet that was not the hat-trick. After removing Karthik and Bravo off the fifth and sixth deliveries of the seventh over, Axar came back to bowl the 11th and off the first ball, he sent back Ravindra Jadeja (11) to effectively end the chase for GL. James Faulkner and Ishan Kishan (27) tried to get their team back on track, but Axar's spell of 4-0-21-4 had not just stopped the GL innings in its track, but had derailed it beyond repair.
Gujarat Lions innings:
It's fair to say Vijay has turned it around for Punjab. The newly-appointed skipper led from the front with the bat and scored a 41-ball 55 to take Punjab to 155, which looked a nothing score for Gujarat before their batters stepped on the field. However, Mohit Sharma and Axar Patel picked up seven wickets between them to hand Gujarat a thrashing. Axar picked up the first hat-trick of the season as well. One of the rarest days on which Gujarat Lions batting has failed to fire. Kings XI were pumped up today and should look to carry forward today's good work. (Points Table)
It's all over. KXIP Punjab beat Gujarat Lions by 23 runs.

19.38 IST: OUT! Mohit Sharma gets his third wicket off the last ball of his spell. Praveen Kumar gets out for 15. A soft dismissal. GL two wickets away from wining this. GL 125/8 in 19 overs.
Stoinis to bowl the 18th over.
19.25 IST: The young quickie bowls a tidy over at the death, seven runs off it. Faulkner gets a boundary off the last ball but is disappointed with himself for not getting more. GL need 49 runs from 18 balls.
Sandeep Sharma to continue..
19.21 IST: Expensive over from Mohit, 12 runs off it. Gujarat Lions need 56 from four overs to win.
19.15 IST: Four! Faulkner smokes it straight back the bowlers head. He has to give it a try now. GL 91/7 in 15.1 overs.
Mohit Sharma to continue..
19.12 IST: OUT! One more for Kings XI. Ishan Kishan tried to steal a quick single taking on Maxwell's arms. The India U-19 skipper eventually falls short of the crease and continues running to the dressing room. GL 87/7 in 14.5 overs.
Stoinis to continue. Gujarat have a chance if these two stay till the end. Ishan and Faulkner have put on a 25-run stand.
19.06 IST: Axar nearly had his fifth there. Saha appealed for a stumping against Faulkner. The Aussie all-rounder was safe. Axar finishes his four-over spell with figures of 4/21. GL 82/6 in 14 overs.
Axar Patel to bowl his last over..
19.00 IST: Ishan Kishan and James Faulkner have stitched a small stand here. They have taken 10 runs from Cariappa's over. GL 74/6 in 13 overs.
18.55 IST: Three runs from Stoinis' over. Faulkner has joined Ishan in the middle. The required run-rate is escalating for Gujarat Lions. GL 64/6 in 12 overs.
Four runs from Axar's over. Gujarat Lions are falling apart in chase of 155 here..
18.47 IST: OUT! Hat-trick for Axar. He removes Ravindra Jadeja for 11. The left-hander poked at the ball fired from wide of the crease and made the long walk back. Karthik, Bravo and now Jadeja. It's been a dream day for Punjab and Axar. GL 57/6 in 10.1 overs.
Gurkeerat Mann to continue. Vijay has a lot of options and he is using them well.
18.37 IST: Seven runs from Sandeep's over. Two left-handers in Jadeja and Kishan at the middle for Gujarat. GL 49/5 in 9 overs.
Axar to bowl the hat-trick ball. No Vijay has replaced him with Sandeep Sharma. The KXIP skipper has been rotating his bowlers today.
18.34 IST: Another three-run over from Cariappa. The young man is keeping it tight. Pressure on GL. Axar and Mohit have rocked the Gujarat top-order. GL 42/5 in 8 overs.
Cariappa to bowl
18.32 IST: OUT! Axar gets his third one in the over. This time the victim is Dwayne Bravo. Another arm ball and Bravo makes the long walk back. Axar is running riot here. GL reeling at 39/5 in 7 overs.
18.30 IST: OUT! Axar gets one more. Arm ball and Karthik drags it onto his stumps. GL 39/4 in 6.5 overs.
18.29 IST: OUT! Axar strikes, removes the big-hitting West Indian Dwayne Smith. He didn't time it well and found the long on fielder. GL 38/3 in 6.2 overs.
18.25 IST: Good over from the leg-break bowler Cariappa to finish the powerplay. GL 36/2 in 6 overs.
Dinesh Karthik is the new man for Gujarat. KC Cariappa to bowl his first over in IPL 2016 for Kings XI.
1820 IST: OUT! Massive wicket for KXIP. Mohit hits the timber for the second time in the day, this time to dismiss GL skipper Suresh Raina for 18. Raina played a poor cross-batted shot to see the ball shattering the stumps. KXIP have started well. GL 34/2 in 5 overs.
After Vijay 41-ball 55-run knock had helped KXIP overcome their usual middle-order wobble to post a total of 155 - that seemed 15-20 runs less than a par total - it was imperative for KXIP to put in a special effort, but with GL opener Smith tonking Sandeep Sharma for a four and six in the first over, it was far from the start KXIP would have hoped for. But, Mohit provided the opening by rattling McCullum's middle stump in the second over. Sharma's plan of bowling stump-to stump line worked again when another middle stump rattle signalled the demise of GL skipper Raina. GL were on the backfoot, but with an in-form middle-order to follow, they would have fancied their chances.

IPL 2016 Indian Premier League 2016 IPL

Saha steps out and flashes, gets a thick edge through Third-man over the slips for four. Another run-out referall, and Saha is safe. And Bravo is still blowing bubbles at the batsmen, not giving any scope for shot-making. Oops, spoke too soon. Saha now clouts a short ball over the Covers for four.
KXIP 123/5 after 16 overs (W Saha 10 off 8 | D Miller 26 off 23)
Miller and Saha have to get a move on now if they are to make at least 150-odd. And they do. Miller caresses Faulkner through Square-leg for four and then Saha sends an outside-edge through Third-man for another four. An appeal for run-out goes a-begging as Miller makes it back for two off the last ball. Great running today by Miller.
KXIP 110/5 after 15 overs (W Saha 4 off 5 | D Miller 19 off 20)
And Bravo bowls an entire over of slower deliveries. So, one more over of spin to follow Kaushik's, that was, then? 5 runs off it. And a nice low-five shared by Bravo and Miller.
KXIP 104/5 after 14 overs (W Saha 1 off 1| D Miller 16 off 18)
Murali Vijay (55 from 41) will not be there to finish the innings. Kaushik strikes again. Bowls that tantalisingly line outside off and induces a top-edge from Vijay's slog-sweep and Bravo does the champion dance on the Midwicket boundary. And that's his spell. A remarkable one. A lot of Kaushik's deliveries are mild googlies, thankfully. I couldn't stomach a left-armer turning it into the right-hander. Now, Miller, relieved of captaincy and captain's support, must take on the mantle of scoring, looks like.
KXIP 100/4 after 13 overs (M Vijay 55 off 40 | D Miller 13 off 14)
James Faulkner into the attack now. Bowls a quiet over for just six runs. Great to see Vijay applaud Mller's commitment after he dives to make his ground.
KXIP 94/4 after 12 overs (M Vijay 51 off 36 | D Miller 11 off 12)
Oh lord. Kaushik is still in the attack. His line is predictably on and outside off-stump. How he aims there so accurately with his arm shooting out like a chameleon's tongue is beyond me. But Vijay manages to cut him fine for four through Third-man, and reaches his half-century. Captain's knock already. Can he continue on and help Kings XI overcome the mid-innings flutter?
KXIP 86/4 after 11 overs (M Vijay 46 off 33 | D Miller 9 off 9)
Now, Dwayne Bravo comes in. More deceptive bowling to come here, for sure. Begins with a roll-of-the-wrist slower delivery. Then follows it up with a quick bouncer that hurries Miller into a cramped pull. But the tight grip is lost as Miller converts a slow yorker into a full-toss and touches it for four through Fine-leg. 8 from the over.
KXIP 78/4 after 10 overs (M Vijay 43 off 31 | D Miller 3 off 5)
Miller plays out the hat-trick ball with an inside-edge onto the boot. Sad for Kaushik. And a quiet over passes with the batsmen trying to come to terms with the fact that a stuck water-sprinkler seems to be chucking cricket balls at them.
KXIP 74/4 after 9 overs (M Vijay 42 off 29 | D Miller 1 off 1)
Oh dear. Gurkeerat Singh (0 from 3) is the next one to go, run out. And the Strategic Timeout comes up to give Kings XI some time to catch a breather from all the gratuitous collapsing. Miller is in now, and gets off the mark with a soft push through Mid-on.

KXIP 70/3 after 8 overs (M Vijay 39 off 27 | G Singh 0 off 0)

Now the Chinaman from Gujarat — Shivil Kaushik — is here to entertain. What a sight he is. I am scared, mesmerised and disoriented at the same time when I watch him deliver — no, squirt — the ball. And he confuses Shaun Marsh (1 from 3) too, who has now chipped it tamely to Suresh Raina at Short-Midwicket. And Glenn Maxwell (0 from 1) comes in, flails a cut and walks back bemusedly as the umpire raises his finger for caught-behind. What an over for Kaushik, who ends with a hat-trick ball coming up next over. Kings XI's awesome start has been cut back quite some.
KXIP 67/1 after 7 overs (M Vijay 37 off 24 | S Marsh 0 off 1)
Stoinis is getting his kicks from abandoning the crease, here. Now he wallops Jadeja past the Long-on fielder for four. And now, Stoinis (27 from 17) is gone. He was stepping out once too often, and Jadeja bowls a clever off-break slightly quicker and wider, gets past Stoinis's flailing bat and Karthik whips the bails off even as the batsman looks behind nonplussed.
KXIP 59/0 after 6 overs (M Vijay 35 off 22 | M Stoinis 22 off 14)

Stoinis continues attacking. Steps out to a short pacey ball from Kulkarni and pulls it with a great last-second adjustment to the Midwicket boundary for four. 8 runs off the over.

KXIP 51/0 after 5 overs (M Vijay 31 off 18 | M Stoinis 17 off 12)

And with the introduction of spin in the form of Ravindra Jadeja, Stoinis finally gets going. Steps out like a caged beast and rocks a six over Long-on. He has quite a high backlift that hindered him against pace. But Jadeja's short, slow half-tracker is a different story. And then he cuts beautifully past Backward Point to end the over with a four. Great start and maintaining the run-rate at around 10 here. Without sounding horribly premature, is this finally going to be Kings XI's day?

KXIP 34/0 after 4 overs (M Vijay 31 off 17 | M Stoinis 3 off 7)

Kulkarni is bowling well to Stoinis, keeping him quiet. But he gets the treatment from Vijay, who has cracked it through Cover once again for a four. Kulkarni gets some movement off the deck to Stoinis. At the score of 38, it was Smith who fell for just 15 to Patel, after being caught by Gurkeerat Singh in the seventh over. Just a run later, it was Dinesh Karthik, who fell for a mere couple, after being cleaned by Patel, followed by Dwayne Bravo off the next ball for an unfortunate duck., thus putting him on a hat-trick off the next ball of his fresh over, as it was in the 11th over he dismissed Ravindra Jadeja for just 11, after being caught behind by Wriddhiman Saha, thus competing his hat-trick, and ending an 18-run stand between Jadeja and Ishan Kishan.

As the score touched 86, it was Kishan, who fell for 27 off an unfortunate run out, as a 29-run stand along with James Faulkner came to an end. It was followed by a strong 39-runs stand between Faulkner and Praveen Kumar, before Kumar fell for just 15 to Mohit, after being caught by KC Cariappa in the 19th over. The second ball of the last over saw Faulkner falling for a healthy 32 to Sandeep Sharma, after being caught by David Miller, as KXIP steered to a comfortable 23-run win.
Full Scorecard
Brief scores:

And Faulkner (32 from 27) is now gone too as Gujarat Lions descend into the doldrums, with 30 runs to get off 4 deliveries. He miscued a slog straight into Miller's hands at Long-on.
GL 125/8 after 19 overs (J Faulkner 32 off 25 | D Kulkarni 0 off 0 || need 30 from 6 balls)
Cariappa! He's tapped it into the boundary for four at Third-man after Praveen Kumar lobs it in his direction. But he is absolved off the last ball of the over as he gets a mulligan, and pouches Praveen Kumar (15 from 13) this time. Great bowling by Mohit Sharma. Lions will not likely make this target now.
GL 118/7 after 18 overs (J Faulkner 31 off 24 | P Kumar 9 off 8 || need 37 from 12 balls)

Faulkner swings. Ball rises and starts to fall into Deep Midwicket. Maxwell dives. Maxwell yorks himself. Maxwell looks sheepish as the ball trickles past him for four. Stoinis thinks the ball is still in play and reprimands his fellow Australian for looking sheepish while there is still work to be done, and it's Stoinis's turn to look sheepish as Maxwell points to the boundary. Now, Kumar dabs it away for four through Third-man. And Faulkner swish-and-misses the last ball. This over helped Lions somewhat. 12 off it.
GL 106/7 after 17 overs (J Faulkner 26 off 21 | P Kumar 3 off 5 || need 49 from 18 balls)
Faulkner has been too quiet tonight. But he tonks the last ball of the over, a full-toss on off-stump, over the Covers for four. Some life injected into the chase; the Lions haven't dozed off.
GL 99/7 after 16 overs (J Faulkner 19 off 18 | P Kumar 1 off 1 || need 56 from 24 balls)
Faulkner absolutely bludgeons a length ball straight for four, just missing Mohit Sharma's head. Breaks the monotony somewhat as the first cheer goes up since about a gazillion overs. Faulkner trying to muscle these balls now, but unable to find the boundary.

IPL 2016 Todays Match Schedule |T20 Vivo IPL 9 Live Highlights

IPL 2016 Todays Match Schedule |T20 Vivo IPL 9 Live Highlights, IPL 2016 Todays Match Schedule |T20 Vivo IPL 9 Live Highlights. His assessment is correct for the nine games that did not see a par score. In five of them, teams lost two or more wickets in power-play. Once that is the case, rebuilding is on the mind of batsmen. Mumbai lost four wickets against Pune, Daredevils lost four against Knight Riders, Sunrisers lost three against KKR and Mumbai lost two against Gujarat and Sunrisers.

While these games may highlight the haste right from the start, with batsmen unsure of what would be a par score, the remaining games show the importance of losing the plot at a crucial stage.
After building a foundation, KXIP lost David Miller and Glenn Maxwell in the same over to Gujarat’s Dwayne Bravo. Wriddhiman Saha couldn’t go with the flow and consumed 25 deliveries to score 20. Pune too experienced that as they lost three wickets in the space of 30 runs against Gujarat.
Mumbai all-rounder Keiron Pollard said it was not about batting first, as the pressure was no less batting second. “Batsmen chasing have a lot of pressure, yes, you know what you are chasing, but still you will have to go out and chase. If you lose a couple of wickets, you are on the back foot and might have to change your game. It is about giving important contributions,”
Bowlers: With the match being played at Delhi, skipper Rohit’s trump card has to be his pacers and he will depend a lot upon Jasprit Bumrah who knows the Indian condition pretty well and is enjoying a very good patch currently. The other two names will be Tim Southee and Mitchell McClenaghan. Rohit’s India teammate Hardik Pandya has so far failed to impress in this edition of IPL and the skipper can give Nathu Singh a chance on this ground while Harbhajan leads the spin alongside Krunal Pandya.
Mumbai Indians likely XI: Rohit Sharma(c), Unmukt Chand, Ambati Rayudu (wk), Jos Buttler, Kieron Pollard, Harbhajan Singh, Krunal Pandya, Mitchell McClenaghan, Tim Southee, Nathu Singh, Jasprit Bumrah
MI's big profile players stepping up augurs well for the team. Add to that new addition Krunal Pandya's utility and the side seems a formidable one. That though is one thing. But whether their foreign players can stack up equally to a promising bunch of domestic youngsters at the Daredevils will be worth witnessing.
Venue: Feroz Shah Kotla, New Delhi
Date: April 23, 2016
Time: 16:00 IST
Temperature: Hot conditions. Temperature to go past 40 degree Celsius
Team News
Delhi Daredevils
Having won consecutive matches, the Daredevils are unlikely to make any changes to the XI that beat RCB. However, if the surface assists turn, they could consider playing Imran Tahir in place of Carlos Brathwaite, which can make for a riveting spell of bowling between him, Amit Mishra and Pawan Negi. MI have struggled against spin and that is something Zaheer Khan must have definitely taken note of.
Probable XI: 1 Quinton de Kock (wk), 2 Shreyas Iyer, 3 Sanju Samson, 4 Karun Nair, 5 JP Duminy, 6 Carlos Brathwaite/Imran Tahir, 7 Chris Morris, 8 Pawan Negi, 9 Zaheer Khan (capt), 10 Amit Mishra, 11 Mohammed Shami
Mumbai Indians
Having tinkered way too much in the first five matches, they seemed to have found the ideal team combination against RCB. Parthiv Patel's run at the top has been disappointing though. MI already have a wicketkeeper playing in Jos Buttler. In such a scenario, drafting in Unmukt Chand ahead of Parthiv may not be that bad a move. Rohit Sharma getting back to opening the innings has given MI wins, hence that is something the team management must not consider altering.
