Against Bangladesh, his unbeaten 42-ball 58 took his team to a respectable total while against Sri Lanka, his 27-ball 38 laid the foundation of their consolation win. In him, Pakistan now have a solid dependable batsman who is extremely skillful behind the stumps too. He can play in any condition, any match situation, any batting position and he has proved that in style. Pakistan may have crashed out of the tournament, but they can be proud of Sarfraz, and look up to him to continue to deliver in future matches as well.

Dilshan changed that, just ahead of the World T20, and the Sri Lankan team management would be happy.Pakistan made three changes, bringing in Wahab Riaz, Iftikar Ahmed and Mohammad Nawaz in place of Mohammad Sami, Khurram Manzoor and Anwar Ali from the team that lost to Bangladesh and crashed out of the tournament.

Earlier, Tillakaratne Dilshan’s return to form was the gain for Sri Lanka which scored 150 for four after being asked to bat.

Dilshan enthralled a sparse gathering with a fine knock that revived images of his batting ability. Dilshan gave the Sri Lankan batting stability, by remaining unbeaten on 75 (56 balls). Sri Lanka tried its third captain in the tournament, resting Angelo Mathews, who had stood in for Lasith Malinga, and giving the mantle to Dinesh Chandimal.Though not specialists, these players would make useful contributions whenever the team required of them. But Pakistan still lacked a wicketkeeper who could play solely as a batsman in the team. Around the same time, a trend of sorts was observed with the other major teams as they all had wicketkeepers who were very good — on some occasions, best — batsmen of their sides. Adam Gilchrist for Australia, Kumar Sangakkara for Sri Lanka, MS Dhoni for India, AB de Villiers for South Africa and Brendon McCullum for New Zealand played the said role to perfection.

Given a fairly sporting wicket, the Pakistan bowlers did well to contain the Sri Lankans first before the batsmen, who had faced criticism for under-performing in the tournament, got together to see the team past the target.
Umar Akmal, who had had a forgettable tournament so far, did a fair bit of hitting and paired in a 56-run partnership with Shoaib Malik to see Pakistan close to the target. Akmal got out trying to hit the winning run after having seen the scores tied. Pakistan have a decent history of having produced some good wicket-keeper batsmen. If we take a look at last 25 years or so, the names of Moin Khan, Rashid Latif and Kamran Akmal stand out. For close to a decade-and-a-half, there was an intense rivalry between Moin and Latif as the two of them kept competing with each other for the wicketkeeper’s spot. Once they were gone, senior Akmal was drafted in and he did a fairly decent job. But once both his wicketkeeping and batting form waned, he was replaced by his brothers Adnan and Umar Akmal for a brief period; an experiment which clearly did not work. Stakes minimal and virtually nothing to play for, Sri Lanka and Pakistan entertained a turnout of over 10,000 at Sher-e-Bangla Stadium, striking form with the bat. Batting had been their bugbear, running into this final group league game of the tournament. They had already crashed out of the Asia Cup. Pressure gone, entertainment became the buzzword. Not that a flat track had been laid out, but the batsmen didn’t have the fear of failure. In the end, Pakistan won the match by six wickets with four balls to spare.

Mustafizur had gone wicket-less for 40 runs in four overs in the Asia Cup opener against India. The Indian batsmen did not have much of a problem reading his cutters and slower deliveries. But Mashrafe defended his pace ace, saying his deliveries did not grip due to dew and rain.
But the left-arm seamer was back to his elements on Friday. In his first over, the 20-year old held on to a superb return catch.
